Heey!! I’m Tyneka Wright, the Founder of Transform My Finances. I’m from Indianapolis, IN where I received my A.S. degree in Business Management and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. I worked in accounting for over 7 years before relocating to Orlando, FL and launching Transform My Finances. I realized that I wanted to be an accountant when I was in middle school, but it wasn’t until I was in college that I started to develop a passion for personal finance.
Several years into my accounting career, I noticed many people of all ages, including myself, did not have basic money management skills. I was a single mother working full-time and going to college full-time. I was neck deep in debt, making $55,000 a year but still living paycheck to paycheck. I was drowning in credit card debt. I was constantly getting high-interest car loans because my credit was a mess and let's not talk about the vicious payday loan cycle. Whew! You know what I’m talking about. If you can name it, 9 times out of 10, I have been there and done that!
I did not grow up with financial literacy being taught in my household or in school. I was not educated on how important it was to save money for emergencies or the importance of having good credit. I was struggling bad with money. With nobody to educate me or help me get out of the financial strain that I was in, I started to teach myself how to get out of debt and better manage my money. I started reading financial books and articles. I attended seminars and listened to financial podcasts throughout the day while at work. From that, I got disciplined and begin to better manage my money. I got myself out of debt. I increased my credit score and started saving for the future. It was an amazing feeling once I finally took control over my money!
Once I began to see the shift in my life, I started to share my knowledge with my friends and family to help them improve their finances. I really started to enjoy helping people resolve their money problems and I did not mind sharing everything that I learned with anyone who would listen. A lot of people who I came across, made decent money but did not have anything to show for it. They were living paycheck to paycheck and missing out on enjoying life simply because they couldn’t afford it. I wanted to change that. I wanted to help people get out of debt, better manage their money, and reach their financial goals all while providing financial literacy so they can begin to have a better relationship with their money.
It’s my personal mission to share with you all the hard financial lessons that I learned so that you can avoid making the same mistakes that I made. I want to help you nurture your finances back to health so you can start enjoying life, again.
